Altmark clinics become digital with VEPRO
Pfungstadt, 20.10.2004 – For modern hospitals and practices the step into the digital future with a strong cost reduction in film consumption and a more efficient workflow in all specialized divisions is meanwhile indispensable. Especially in the radiology digital image management (PACS), which are individually structured, inexpensive, reliable and on the latest state of the art, are not to exclude any more. For these reasons the Altmark clinic gGmbH with the locations in Salzwedel and Gardelegen decided for the introduction of a PACS solution in favor of the progressive technology of the VEPRO AG. After the Altmark clinic in Salzwedel could convince itself during the live operation for a short time of the advantages of a VEPRO PACS for the image/film acquisition, processing, archiving and finding, now also the clinical center Gardelegen is equipped with the innovative VEPRO PACS. Over 90% film saving after small running time, a sensational price-performance ratio, the realization of all promises and the smooth workflow realized to the IHE guidelines in the clinical center Salzwedel was for the clinical center Gardelegen the best reference with the decision for VEPRO.

As international manufacturer and provider of medical IT management systems, VEPRO offers the crucial advantages, which are of importance to the two Altmark hospitals by realizing such comprehensive projects. With competent consultation and project planning, all-comprehensive service as well as the holistic quality certification of the VEPRO PACS as medicine product of the class IIb and according to ISO 9001, EN ISO 13485 and FDA VEPRO guarantees the legal and competent basis for the successful implementation of individual and safe IT solutions.

Altmark clinic gGmbH Hospital Salzwedel
By the IHE and HL7 compliant system implementation of a VEPRO PACS in the hospital Salzwedel the past analog workflow could be digitized within shortest time and all existing analog working modalities e.g. ultrasonoscopes, C-Bogen, video towers and others without interface restrictions with the DICOM Modality Worklist
management integrated. VEPRO set on own economical solutions such as diagnostic stations with parallel video acquisition to connect the analog Non DICOM modalities. Even the not DICOM compatible CT was economically connected with the help of the intelligent VEPRO components. To perfect the workflow the information systems RIS (GAP) and KIS (SAP) became completely integrated. New information or data changes in one information system (IS) is transferred thereby via HL7 interfaces independently to all other IS and to the PACS.

All acquired data are stored in the medical DICOM standard format in the PACS archive. The advantage of this standardisation is obvious: The VEPRO PACS is able to exchange data with all already existing IT systems or modalities, which are thereby available department and system spanning in the clinical center. Each authorized physician cannot only retrieve images and films from the PACS, but also pertinent findings, laboratory reports or other case referred information from other IS clinic wide. In addition a linkage between images and findings from different information systems is provided automatically and presented to the user as a unit by this intelligent IT technology. Thus all important patient information are available in seconds to the authorized persons in the entire hospital on all hospital PCs unrestrictedly. VEPRO sets thereby on proven data security technologies, which guarantee highest security with largest user friendliness.

The chief radiologist of the hospital Salzwedel, Mrs. Dr. Lang, express herself inspired about the successful PACS decision: “The company VEPRO promised us with its PACS not too much. Those holistic, digital information transfer offers today a smooth, digital and safe work routine with immense work time saving to the hospital Salzwedel for the advantage of the patients. Within shortest time we could reduce our film costs owing to the VEPRO PACS by 90%, which means that no more film must be used hospital-internally. From the saving of the high x-ray film costs, which can be between two and four Euro per patient, both the patient and the hospital benefit. All modalities and subsystems were integrated by the unrestricted interface compatibility of the system and the clinical center enjoys by the system standardisation the best possible manufacturer independence. In summary I can only say: All demanded conditions from the contract specifications are fulfilled to our absolute satisfaction.“

Altmark clinic gGmbH hospital Gardelegen
After the entire hospital in Salzwedel works already successfully with the PACS, now also the implementation of a VEPRO PACS is planned as next step in the radiological department of the hospital Gardelegen with a telecommunication solution for the MRT area. For the hospital Gardelegen especially the clearly defined, at the workflow oriented data exchange, the open architecture, the long life cycles of the system components and the rapid cost savings by the film reduction was convincing.

„Salzwedel was the perfect example of a successful PACS implementation. We are to highly satisfied with the work and the product of the company VEPRO. Our expectations were more than fulfilled concerning simplicity, functionality and cost reduction. Therefore we decided to use the VEPRO concept also for Gardelegen. Near-term we plan thereby a cost reduction for both hospitals, faster workflows and via telecommunication an effective, mutual support of both hospitals within the area of the radiology.“ so the chair man of the Altmark clinic gGmbH, Mr. Burghardt.

Starting from 01.01.2005 the PACS is now also in Gardelegen going into live operation. The MRT is thereby used jointly by both hospitals. To guarantee a smooth connection and data transmission of the two hospitals over the distance of 45 km, VEPRO created the connection of the multi-client-enabled PACS solution to the by both hospitals together used GAP-IT RIS and will realize the planned bi-directional telecommunication solution by means of a 2MBit dedicated line. Thus all data are always there, where they are needed. For example, if the patient of Salzwedel comes into Gardelegen to a MRT investigation, then already the entire patient history is in the KIS, RIS and if necessary in the PACS present. After the investigation and finding the current images of the MRT’s are not only stored in the PACS in Gardelegen, but also send by modern auto-routing-mechanisms fully automatic to pre-defined departments in Salzwedel. If the patient, after the investigation in Gardelegen, now needs to be operated in Salzwedel, then the images of the MRT investigation are sent self-contained from the PACS into the operation room to Salzwedel and are there already in seconds observably by the surgeon.

„The implementation of a PACS in the emergency care of two hospitals of this dimension with analog workflow is an exciting challenge for each IT manufacturer. We are pleased that we could fulfil all requirements in the Altmark clinic hospital Salzwedel with bravery and now in the second step also may equip the hospital Gardelegen with a VEPRO solution. We will solve the tasks placed there just as successfully.“ so the VEPRO AG.
